When is a dead flea not a dead flea?

It’s every pet owners dread – the telltale scratching of your animal, the annoying bite on your arm. It can only be one thing. A dreaded flea infestation.

Fleas are incredibly resourceful little devils. They jump onto the lovely fur coat of your cat or dog and lay their eggs there. The eggs then get spread about your home as your pet cosies up on the sofa, climbs the stairs and rolls around on your favourite rug.

Most people’s reaction is to grab a ‘spot-on product’, treat their pet and then sit back and relax. A couple of days later, as you’re grooming your pet, the dead fleas emerge and bingo, job done. Or not, as the case may be.

Terrifyingly only approximately five per cent of a flea infestation is made up of adult fleas on your pet, whereas 95 per cent is in your home as eggs, larvae and pupae. So those dead fleas you’ve removed from your pet were just the tip of the iceberg. Read about the life cycle of a flea here. See, told you they were resourceful!

Lurking in your carpets, floorboards, pet beds and other soft furnishings, are thousands and thousands more flea eggs waiting to hatch and continue the irritating infestation in your home.

That is why it’s crucial to use a treatment like R.I.P. Fleas Extra™ to break the flea life cycle and protect your home for up to 12 months.

Unfortunately, a flea infestation won’t go away overnight – the ‘pupal window’ will see to that. Whilst RIP Fleas Extra will kill eggs and larvae, the pupae are resistant, as they are to ALL flea sprays. As the fleas emerge from their pupae, they need to come into contact with an environmental flea spray like R.I.P Fleas Extra™. This is why it’s crucial to treat your home properly – read our five step guide here.

Even with correct treatment of your home with R.I.P. Fleas Extra and a suitable treatment for your pet, it could be several months before medical pharmaceutical industry you completely eradicate the menace of fleas. Making it extremely important to get started as soon as possible.
